New Zealand is now in the RED level of the Covid Protection Framework.
As a result, Fencing NZ has updated our Covid procedures (see attached), and we are constantly reviewing the changing situation in light of our events scheduled. The safety of our fencers is something we are very concerned about.
As a result, we have assessed this weekend's Waitangi Tournament in Wellington and we confirm that the tournament will continue as scheduled, but with strict enforcement of our safety procedures.
Please note this includes the requirements for anyone exhibiting symptoms not to attend the tournament, and for there to be no more than 100 people inside the venue at any one time. This means entry will be restricted to officials, competitors and coaches who have current MOH approved Vaccine Passes.
These procedures were initially implemented at the recent National Training Camp held in Auckland, and we're pleased to report that we have not been advised of anyone who attended having subsequently come down with Covid19.
Fencing NZ is aware that several places of interest in the last few weeks have been on flights and at airports. We ask that all people travelling to and from the tournament take all precautions possible, including wearing masks and be aware of social distancing at all times.
Safe travels folks – be safe!
