The Fencing NZ Board have ratified the Selectors Commission's recommendations for amendments to the Selection Criteria during the Covid19 pandemic.

Changes to the criteria:

The Selectors recognize the continued lack of available competitions and the inability to travel due to Covid-19 has severely impacted opportunities for Fencers to amass results sufficient to meet current Selection Policy requirements for the coming season.

Accordingly, the Selectors recommend the suspension of the compulsory performance elements of the current Selection Policy until further notice.

This change will allow the Selectors to consider results over a wider than 12 month timescale and to endorse the Selectors' ability to make selection decisions using their best judgment based on the information they have to hand including both past results and current training activities.  To support this activity it is recommended that Fencers considering nomination for selection (and/or their coach) should be prepared to submit evidence of their training plan that covers at least the 3 month period immediately prior to nomination that covers the following.

  • fitness
  • regular lessons
  • bouting practices
  • Strength & conditioning training
