The NZ Academy of Sport have invited Fencing New Zealand to participate in the Prime Minister's Athlete Scholarship programme. The purpose of the programme is "to assist talented and elite athletes achieve tertiary and vocational qualifications while pursuing excellance in sport." The scholarships being made available through us are for our athletes who are competing at a top national or international level. Athletes who receive a scholarship will have their academic fees paid (max $10,000) and, if eligible, receive a living allowance (max $6,000). NOTE: Applications must be sent to FeNZ - see below for further details.
Our sport is eligible to nominate 'up to' five athletes. This 'up to' allocation can also include any athletes who currently hold a scholarship and who may wish to apply again. Fencing New Zealand is responsible for managing the application process for all our athletes from within our sport. FeNZ will present the athlete application forms to the NZ Academy of Sport by the 1st December deadline in the priority order we wish the athletes to receive a scholarship.
Full details of FeNZ requirements with regards the applications and any further supporting information required will be circulated to those athletes who have already expressed their interest and also advised to the regions and on the FeNZ web site by 14th November, within one week of the FeNZ Management meeting of 7th November.
If granted by NZAS, our athletes will receive a scholarship for the full academic year (January to December 2005). The NZ Academy of Sport reserves the right to decline applications if the athlete is not competing at a suitable level.
