Commonwealth Junior Fencing Champs news from team manager Steve Clarke

Just in case you haven't caught up on yesterday's efforts on the piste. Wm's foil team picked up a bronze medal but in exciting circumstances. Started last bout of our match against Wales with the score at 40 - 25.
The Welsh team captain, Mark Griffiths-Nelson, feeling that they had us beaten with the size of the buffer had subbed his number one fencer for a reserve who is a sabreur. We won 44 - 43 in extra time with Monique doing the deed. Great effort from Monique and the other girls with each playing an important part at various times. Plus we had plenty of support around the stadium by the time the bout was finished.
Lost semi final against England but the bad news was that Monique reinjured her shoulder in the first bout and I have withdrawn her from further fencing. Won't know how bad it is until later today but at the least she has a serious dose of rehab coming up. Aussie Doctors have been great.
Men's epee was disappointing with both Callum and Andreas going out in the 32
Best wishes, Steve Clareke ( CFJ Team Manager)
