At the business end our Junior Menís Foil ďTeam New ZealandĒ (minus Hamish Chan who was unable to attend) completed a New Zealand first, with a simultaneous team competition. This intense training had our Team New Zealand (Chris Bell, Hamish Clarke and Ben Wilkins) simultaneously fencing three teams.
In Team Lamborghini was our Women's Junior Team member Sally McCance, aided by Fiona McDonald and Rachel Rowlands. Team Ferrari had Aidan Burgess, Ben Drayton and a venerable Gareth Foley. Team Bugatti Michael Aymes, Anna Garcia, Finn Butler). Even under the pressure of continuous fencing our ďTeam New ZealandĒ maintained their nerves and skill, staying on top of their game to win the challenge of all three teams matches.
The Saturday evening traditional barbecue had the team and supporters once again showing off their culinary prowess with line honours going to both the Lemon Meringue Pie (Carol McCance) and the Caesar Salad (Chris Bell).
We acknowledge and thank all the fencers and supporters who have contributed to the teamís preparation and forthcoming participation in the Penang Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships in two weeks.
Next week-end other weapon fencers come together again in Christchurch at The Fencing Institute for preparation training prior to the teamís final departure for Penang on 12th February.
The 2009 Penang Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championship competition opens on Tuesday 17 February, first off our Individual Menís Epeeists will be on the piste and will close on Saturday 21 February with our last event the Team Menís Epee
